when septics fail

"The grass shouldn't be greener on the other side"

This is not very exciting but documentation of our progress none the less.

The summer of 2016 was very dry with very little rain. I will mention our efforts and say that we had the greenest patch of lawn on the street. We watered for about three hours a day every day. It was worth it...and only possible if on a well!

"April showers bring May flowers." - Unknown

April at Gable Oaks means lots of tulips! Every weekend in April was full of spring cleaning and checking more off our to do list. The first weekend we completely organized our basement and cleaned down there again. The next weekend was so beautiful, so like everyone else in Simcoe County, we started our yard work which consisted of picking up many sticks, bagging leaves and moving gardens around to make way for our new septic coming next week. I can't express to you my frustration for small fallen sticks on the ground. They belong in the trees! Anyway, we finally did something with our corner garden outside our living room window, when we moved a bunch of plants into it and got rid of some ugly bushes. Another weekend, we continued to prepare our garden and got rid of all of the Hostas lining it. We also tore apart our garage and got rid of everything that was left behind from the previous owners in the rafters. Three dump runs later and we could see the ceiling! Dump runs make me very happy, I love purging. Mitch has spent a good week or two rewiring the garage, moving electrical, lighting and making it all safe, as well as installing our other garage door rails and opener. It's truly his fully functioning element now.

We spiced up our curb appeal by changing out our two outdoor lights and adding a third by the garage door entrance. Yesterday we planted our ten White Spruce two year old seedlings! We participated in the Tree Seedling Distribution Program that is offered to Severn, Midland, Oro Medonte and a few other townships. The idea of the program is to bring back indigenous trees to the area. The program is supported by the Severn Sound Environmental Association as well as the Dufferin Simcoe Land Stewardship Network.

On April 21st, we celebrated our 4th year anniversary! We travelled to Walter's Falls in highland country and ate an incredible meal at the Fall's View Inn. We were there once before a few years ago and it truly is an amazing intimate setting. I highly recommend it! There is beautiful land to pass through on the drive, and the little town has very interesting history as well as some jaw dropping century homes.
