before & after // masonry restoration

"Everything starts with one step, or one brick, or one road, or one day."
- Jeremy Gilley

Gables Oaks does not have eves troughs yet. Without them, water damage can occur from water running down the house. There are three areas on our home where brick had spalled, popped out and has been damaged by rain water. Two of these areas are largely black in colour from the water. More so than curb appeal, it was important to us to replace the bricks and restore these areas to prevent water damage in our home. Next summer we will be putting up aluminum troughs and under ground drainage to take care of this problem and prevent further damage. The first area is at the front of our house by the mudroom door, the second is the wall on our deck and the third is the chimney area. We also started replacing our window cills with concrete ones.
The boys completed three and we will probably pour and replace the rest next year.

Our friend, Mike Hilverda, who is a mason, started our restoration project at the end of August. The repair is unremarkable and looks fantastic for curb appeal and value. We are very happy with the end results and preventative measure is sure worth it! In a week we will be able to wash the walls.

autumn at gable oaks // 2015

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
- Albert Camus

Fall is one of our favourite times of the year. The colours are simply beautiful. I thoroughly enjoy cool brisk air that warrants oversized sweaters and comfiness...and heart may just speed up when you say pumpkin spice.
